Original footage - Editing

I began by first editing the 30-second original footage for the website. I had the idea of creating a ‘Behind The Scenes’ blooper reel for the music video. I decided on this because not only would it provide convergence between the video and the website, but also would provide interaction for fans of the band who would want to find out more about the making of the video or would provide personal identity for the fans who would enjoy and connect with the band laughing and making mistakes together.

I decided to use the song ‘We Are Not Alone’ by Karla DeVito because it’s another iconic song from The Breakfast Club, providing further intertextuality, whilst also connecting with the song in the music video and matching the overall brand identity of an 80s rock and pop-culture inspired band.

I decided to edit this first as it would give me a chance to learn different editing techniques whilst tackling a smaller video size, which I could then use when editing the music video. This helped me experiment with editing audio, cutting between different clips and syncing them to music, and using techniques like fading in and out.

7th September 2024:

After putting in all the footage I wanted, the video reached just over a minute in length. I then had to go back and decide what I wanted to keep and what I could remove in order to half the length of the video to 30 seconds. After editing I managed to reach 30 seconds whilst still maintaining the same aim I had originally to create an entertaining BTS bloopers reel that would relate to and inspire fans.

Music Video - Editing

5th September 2024:
I began editing my music video by first placing the master shot, which I decided would be a medium close-up of the band playing. I chose this because it featured all of the band members, with a focus on Charlie lip-syncing in the centre, and so it made for good footage to go back to in between other shots.

5th September 2024:
I then inserted the rest of the shots I had of the band playing from different angles, including a close-up of Charlie lip-syncing, a left and right POV of Charlie lip-syncing, and close-ups of Aled and Amara playing their instruments, and two two-shots of Isobel and Aled playing their guitars together. This meant that I had achieved the convention of showcasing the band’s talents as if it were a concert, and could now place other footage around the band shots.

6th September 2024:
Next, I focused on adding the rest of the footage of Charlie lip-syncing, this time with a different location. This created a contrast between all the band shots, which I could utilise to highlight certain lyrics and points in the video.

9th September 2024:
I finally added the last footage of Charlie lip-syncing with some extra footage shot in another location (a park).

10th September 2024:
I then began on the end montage section, as that was the only section without any of the previous lip-synching footage. I knew this would mainly be the arcade location, and so I began with those videos.

11th September 2024:
I then went back to the arcade footage and changed the pacing to match the tempo of the song better, which you can see below with some footage being sped up and some being slowed down.

12th-18th September 2024:
I began to insert all of the Breakfast Club footage.

20th September 2024:
Now that I had all the main footage that I wanted in the video, I went back and filled most of the gaps with remaining shots of the band or Charlie’s lip-synching so that there weren’t any areas remaining with footage I didn’t like or felt wasn’t right.

23rd September 2024:
I experimented with different fonts and effects to try and create a title card for the video, focusing on a retro feel that would match the band's style.

27th September 2024:
I then came back to the title card as I didn’t feel it had the effect I was hoping for, and so I edited the spacing to better fit the frame. However, I later decided that I would rather animate a title card to have a cohesive style across the website and video, but this did help me decide where I would like the text and in what type of format.

Over the next few days, I planned and filmed more footage to fill in the gaps where I thought the footage I already had wasn't sufficient or as good as it could be.

14th October 2024:
I began putting in this extra footage.

15th-16th October 2024:
Now that I was happy with the video's footage, I moved onto editing. I began by placing a 'film' filter and an '80s' filter onto the Breakfast Club footage, which separated these shots from other different locations, whilst also creating a specialised style that added to the video's overall aesthetic.

I also began to add transitions between clips for a better flow and pacing.

17th- October 2024:
I decided that I wanted some animation to enhance certain shots, create titlecards and emphasise moments, which I animated on Flipaclip and exported as a GIF, adding the GIF as an overlay onto the video.

Website - Creation

I began by creating the menu section of the website. This includes a previously-made logo for the band that can be seen in the video and acr...
