Clubs:

Film Analysis Club:

Every Tuesday lunchtime, I help run Film Analysis Club, where each week a student can do a presentation on a film or topic of their choosing. Some of the presentations have gone into detail about certain films, such as one of the scenes in Donnie Darko or the one that I did on feminism in Alien. This club gives students a place to express what interests them, especially those who may be more eager to have a career in film or media.

BBC Young Reporters:

Every Wednesday lunchtime, I help run BBC Young Reporters. Not only is this a social club for like-minded individuals who are interested in media and the news to find others who share the same passions a them, but also we hold several events each term. For example, during the winter term, we created a Winter Report which featured different interviews and news segments in the style of a BBC report. Recently we have held different competitions for members to write articles relating to different themes like ‘pop culture’ and ‘an issue that is important to me’.

Friday Film Club:

Every Friday lunchtime, I help run Friday Film Club, where we screen a film for students to watch during their lunch. This allows students to have somewhere to meet new people and enjoying watching films without paying money, which may help inspire some students to pursue a film career.

Non-club activities:

BBC Apprenticeships: "Are they right for me?" webinar:

This webinar informed me of different possible apprenticeships with the BBC, as well as the paths you need to take in order to apply. The webinar also provided details on the different levels and types of apprenticeships possible at the BBC, which helped me think about the possibilities for post-18 pathways.

Media Taster Lecture: TV Crime Drama - Leeds Trinity University webinar:

Although the chosen Tv shows (The Killing and No Offense) aren't on my course, it informed me on the conventions of crime drama and information about the TV industry in general. This inspired me to consider perhaps pursuing a career in TV.

BFI: Why Good People Make Bad Characters - webinar:

Media Magazine: "Alien. It's still a scream!" article:

When reading this article, I learnt more about one of my favourite films, Alien, specifically its background on how it was created, the representation featured in the film, and how themes of capitalism and feminism are explored. As well as this, the article also highlighted the sci-fi-horror hybrid genre as a whole.

Film Analysis Club- "Alien: A Feminist Franchise?":

Inspired by the article above, I decided to make my own presentation about the theme of feminism explored in Alien, presenting it in Film Analysis Club. I explored the involvement of feminism in the first four films, highlighting how the sub-themes of motherhood, bodily autonomy, and the objectification of women that is prevalent in the horror and sci-fi genres.

Media Magazine: "Video games and the horror genre" article:

I decided to read this article as I have a strong interest in both video games and the horror genre, and so I wanted to learn more about both as I would love to consider a career to do with either of these topics. The article talked about how video games tend to take the lead when it comes to the best horror experience due to the high level of immersion, especially when it comes to the use of sound in games like Alien: Isolation (2014), in which the players must listen to their surroundings as this depends on their very survival, or more recently the use of 3D and 8D audio. Video games can also pull off certain scares that wouldn't be possible in film, such as the endless and repeating corridors of P.T (2014) or the sanity metre which could mimic the player's TV turning off in Eternal Darkness (2002). I found this article really interesting and it's further developed my interest in this field.

Marketing for Chicago:

Currently, I am helping to run the marketing team for the school's production of Chicago. In my role, I am assigning and managing different teams of students to focus on photography, filmed interviews, actor and crew profiles, and social media management. During one rehearsal, I also did some photography myself of the cast rehearsing.
